Unlimited OCR 2 — Hardware Requirements & GPU Compatibility

Vision

Unlimited-OCR-2 is Baidu's second-generation vision-language model for OCR and document parsing, the successor to Unlimited-OCR. It has about 3.3 billion parameters in total and activates roughly 1.15 billion per token as a Mixture-of-Experts model, though every expert must still fit in memory. Its main change is Sparse Reference Sliding Window Attention, which keeps attention over a fixed-size set of working references so that decoding cost and memory stay close to constant as documents grow, letting it parse very long, multi-page documents in a single request. Context length is 131,072 tokens. It is released under the MIT license, which permits commercial use, and was published in October 2026 alongside MarathonDocBench, a benchmark for ultra-long document parsing. At this size it should run on a single consumer GPU once quantized, with extra memory needed for long multi-page inputs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much VRAM does Unlimited OCR 2 need?

Unlimited OCR 2 requires 2.4 GB of VRAM at Q4_K_M, or 7.1 GB at BF16. Full 131K context adds up to 7.9 GB (10.4 GB total).

VRAM = Weights + KV Cache + Overhead

Weights = 3.3B × 4.8 bits ÷ 8 = 2 GB

KV Cache + Overhead ≈ 0.4 GB (at 2K context + ~0.3 GB framework)

Fit ratings and hardware model lists check this model with room for a 16K-token context, which needs a little more memory.

KV Cache + Overhead ≈ 8.4 GB (at full 131K context)

Can I run Unlimited OCR 2 on a Mac?

Yes — MacBook Air 13" M3 (8 GB) and 145 other Macs can run Unlimited OCR 2. Apple Silicon uses unified memory, so the model shares RAM with the system. At Q4_K_M you need at least 2.4 GB of usable unified memory (RAM minus macOS overhead).

Can I run Unlimited OCR 2 locally?

Yes — Unlimited OCR 2 can run locally on consumer hardware. Popular tools include Ollama, LM Studio, and llama.cpp.

How fast is Unlimited OCR 2?

At Q4_K_M, Unlimited OCR 2 can reach ~389 tok/s on AMD Instinct MI350X. On NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090: ~517 tok/s. Speed depends mainly on GPU memory bandwidth. Real-world results typically within ±20%.

tok/s = 1000 ÷ (active GB ÷ (bandwidth GB/s × efficiency) × 1000 + layers × routing ms)

Mixture-of-Experts: just the active experts get read for each token, along with a fixed routing cost per layer.

Example: NVIDIA B200 → 0.8 GB active ÷ (8000 × 0.65) = 0.1605 ms, plus 12 layers × 0.055 ms = 0.6600 ms, so 1000 ÷ 0.8205 ms = ~1219 tok/s
